

Karen Dean is a team and executive coach, trainer of team coaches, a coach supervisor, author and originator. She is co-founder of Exceptional Achievement Ltd established in 2002, as the home for the tools and methods which she has originated for coaches, teams and organisations. She is also co-founder of Diabolo Limited which has been delivering coaching services since 2003. Karen is a Master Certified Coach accredited by the International Coaching Federation. She has 33 years of experience coaching many hundreds of individuals and leadership teams, across 11 sectors, worldwide.

Executive Bio
Karen's strategic approach, embedded in pragmatic practical processes, has been informed and refined from her coaching ethos. She has the courage to usefully provoke and challenge her clients. Karen works with precision and blends this approach with the sensitivity to support as needed. She enjoys complexity and seeking clarity and simplicity, which is also relevant in her supervision practice. Being endlessly curious and intellectually creative has led Karen in her unusual professional direction, devising valuable methods and diagnostics, which pay attention to the head, heart and gut. Karen is passionate to share her approaches, knowledge and ideas with other coaches. Increasing their reach to make an even more significant impact. Spontaneity and structure are simultaneously present in her coaching work. She believes that frameworks are the foundation of safety and enable the freedom to work in our unique styles, whether with individuals or teams.
Prior to establishing her coaching practice, Karen was employed for 10 years by Marks and Spencer plc, where she held commercial leadership roles, followed by head office assignments in sales management and corporate marketing. She then took the role as chair of the corporate marketing committee facilitating the face of Marks and Spencer on the high street, across all promotional disciplines for Clothing and Homeware commercial divisions. She began her career as a scientist, specialising in Haematology and Blood Transfusion at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, attaining Fellowship of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Karen is the co-author of Coaching Stories: Flowing and Falling of Being a Coach – Published by Routledge Worldwide in February 2019. She has authored many articles and was awarded ‘Joint Winner – Best Feature Article’ in Coaching at Work Magazine 2016 and shortlisted in 2017. Karen has been the guest on a number of podcasts and was interviewed in a 2-part production of ‘The Workplace’ on London arts radio station, Resonance FM, where she was invited to share her expertise, knowledge and insights from working with teams.
Karen is an original thinker and innovator who has crafted the me:my™team method. This is a process for team leaders and coaches working with teams to prepare for and conduct structured, inclusive conversations.
